Kathrine “Kate” Dario Delmendo, a BS Computer Engineering ‘04 alumna, based in California USA, established the Abraham Dario, Jr. Scholarship Program in Engineering, in honor of her beloved father and UP Mechanical Engineering alumnus. Kate and her daughter Alex graced the Ceremonial Signing of the Deed of Donation for the Scholarships with UPERDFI Executive Director Tito Aliga and UPCOE Faculty led by Associate Dean for Student Affairs Kate Tungpalan, held on November 24, 2023 at the EEE Institute.  In attendance were EEEI Faculty and staff, and Deputy ED Norika Ishikawa.

The scholarships will target students from the Computer, Electrical, Industrial, Mechanical and Geodetic Engineering courses, but may be opened to other in-need engineering students.

Quoted Kate: “I attribute my success to my holistic UP education. But in my career, two courses helped me much – a thermodynamics course in Mechanical Engineering, and an engineering economics course in Industrial Engineering! The first one when I was employed by an energy engineering company, and the second in my own business – Mystic Box LLC. I hope these initial ten slots will help aspiring students to graduate.

Alex, a Grade 9 student, also aims to become an engineer and plans to raise funds in the US for more scholarships for UP students.

We thank EEEI professor Dr. Luis Sison, Kate’s faculty adviser in her capstone project, for initiating this collaboration!
