On November 25, the joint UPCOE-UPERDFI Task Force met to plot the steps for the successful implementation of the multi-million project that will significantly enhance research productivity in the College. Motivated by the suggestion of donor Manuel V. Pangilinan that we should think not only of a 1,200-core HPC but maybe 5,000 to 10,000 cores, the discussion included UPERDFI members who have experienced building and running research and data centers: Dr. Joel Marciano who led the building of the 4,500-core facility at the DOST Advance Science and Technology Institute; Elzar Dodjie Simon who runs the IT infrastructure of New York University; and VP Dante Briones, who had built and managed data centers in the Philippines.
