Dean Tonette Tanchuling and COE leaders hosted UP VP for Development, Dr. Ferdinand Pecson in discussing possible collaborations aimed at completing unfinished Engineering structures. The go-forward agreement includes a detailed review of the status of each building and understanding of the steps in the process that caused delays and an identification of the necessary steps to finish them.

This was the offshoot of an informal agreement made between UPCOE, OVPD, UP Alumni Engineers, and UPERDI during the UPAE Induction Ceremony on February 20. (See related story.)

The projects that were taken up, which started before the 2020 lockdown, included the following:

  1. The Learning Commons (behind the UPAE Building)
  2. The Energy and Envi Engineering Building
  3. The Department of Computer Science Building
  4. The ICE Coastal Laboratory
  5. The ICE Wind Tunnel Laboratory
  6. The DChE Building Repair Project

Discussants included VP Pecson and staff Harvey Bisa; COE leaders Dean Tonette, AD Meynard Berana, ICE Director Regin Regidor, Envi Engg head Ana Rollon, Energy Eng head Butch Cervera, DChE Head Julie del Rosario, DCS Head Justine Villar, and Library Head Sharon Betan. UPAE was led by President Joey Gomez and ED Eric Tingatinga; while the UPERDFI team was led by President Chicho Mantaring and ED Tito Aliga. Also attending was UPERDFI Jon Kasilag who led a team from his company AMH Philippines to undertake a status survey of the E&E Engg Building in 2021 at the request of then UP President Danilo Concepcion. A second meeting is being scheduled.
