The UP Engineering Research and Development Foundation, Inc. (UPERDFI) held a successful membership engagement event on March 24 via Zoom. The event aimed to provide a platform for members to engage in discussions and gain insights into the role and importance of membership in the organization.

UP College of Engineering (UPCOE) Dean Maria Antonia N. Tanchuling apprised the members on the recent initiatives and vision of the College. UPERDFI Executive Director Tito Aliga presented a review of UPERDFI’s strategic objectives and the committees and task teams in which members can participate. He stressed that UPERDFI is a 2-way bridge: one way is the traditional ”Give to the College”. The other way is what membership can deliver to members – UPERDFI’s role in expanding its members’ personal, professional, and business networks.

The event featured a panel discussion with members Babes Singson and Glen Tabios, and Adviser Lilit Tumbocon, who shared their experience in building UPERDFI while busy with their careers. The panel highlighted the significance of contributing time and talent in driving efforts that support the UP College of Engineering.

The event also featured active participation from 35 UPERDFI members, including those from the USA and Japan, who shared their valuable ideas on how to improve collaborations that benefit the UP College of Engineering and society such as through mentoring students, commissioning research between industry and academe, and engaging their networks to support UP.

UPERDFI President Chicho Mantaring thanked all the presenters, panelists, attendees, the organizers – the Membership Committee headed by Val Reyes and host Jomari Mercado for contributing to a successful event.
