The Manila Electric Company through the One Meralco Foundation, represented by foundation president Jeffrey Tarayao, renewed their commitment to support women engineers during the Virtual Awarding Ceremony on December 14, 2023. Meralco supports 3rd year women BS Electrical Engineering majors from UP Diliman, UP Los Baños, Polytechnic University of the Philippines, Batangas State University and Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology.

The 22 new scholars join the 18 scholars awarded in 2022-23. For UP Diliman, three scholars were awarded in AY 2022-2023 (slated to graduate in July 2024); two Juniors were added this year for a 2-year support till graduation.

The MpowHer Program is one of the three action streams Meralco’s MBrace Program, which is meant to execute Gender Diversity, Equality and Inclusivity in the company’s engineering/technical ranks. The overall goal is to have 40% women in the company’s ranks by 2030, where the number stood at 22% in 2021.
